Avignon

The city of Popes and theatrical art

Another of Provence’s absolute gems, Arles is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. It illuminates the banks of the Rhône with its beauty, its bell towers, its pink-tiled roofs, its famous bridge and above all, its majestic Palais des Papes, a 15,000 m² residence built in the 14th century, back when popes made Avignon their capital. Today, the palace provides a unique setting for the Avignon theatre festival that enlivens the city’s streets throughout the month of July.
